Special Importance Attached to Quranic Sciences in Algeria Universities

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Algerian Quran memorizer said universities in his country pay special attention to the teaching of Quranic sciences.

 

Osama Munshari, who represents Algeria in the 35th edition of Iran’s International Quran Competition, said that, in general, great significance is attached to Quranic activities such as holding Quran recitation sessions, teaching the Quran and organizing Quran.

“Every year, an international Quran competition is held in my country during the holy month of Ramadan. Also, there is a week titled National Quran Week,” he told IQNA in an interview.

He said at universities, in particular, there has been a movement aimed at promoting Quran teaching and contemplating on the Holy Book.  

Munshari, who is a teacher of German language at high school, said he learned the entire Quran by heart in two years.

He said he also teaches the Quran and the rules of Tajweed in mosques.

The Algerian Quran memorizer said he had attended an international Quran competition in Bahrain two years ago where he won the second prize.

“I have also come first in the memorization category of the national Quran competition in Algeria.”

Asked about the international Quranic event underway in Tehran, he lauded the organization of the contest.

He added that the various categories and sections of the competition have turned it into one of the major Quran competitions in the Muslim world.

Munshari was also asked about the role of such Quranic events in countering extremism. He said international Quran contests are venues where Quran activists from all over the world gather together and learn about one another’s views, which can help to promote understanding and enhance Muslim unity.

The 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran is underway in five sections, including those for men, women, the visually-impaired and seminary students.
